Hyderabad Food Safety Drive Shuts 8 Eateries Over Violations

Hyderabad food safety inspections have led to the closure or suspension of operations at multiple eateries in Hyderabad and three neighbouring Telangana districts after officials found alleged violations including unhygienic conditions, suspected adulteration and operation without required licences.

The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) suspended the licences of seven eateries in Nalgonda, Suryapet and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri districts and ordered them to stop operations. Hotel Sai Priya in Nakrekal was separately ordered to shut after officials found that it was operating without an FSSAI licence and in unhygienic conditions.

Ten food safety teams, accompanied by police, inspected 20 restaurants and collected 20 food samples suspected of adulteration. The establishments whose licences were suspended are 7 Midway Plaza and Anjana Tiffins in Nalgonda; Tanuja Hotels, Rajugari Thota and Sri Mamatha Lodge and Restaurant in Suryapet; and Sri Aadhya Grand Family Restaurant and Sangam Hotel in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri.

The action followed another round of inspections in Hyderabad earlier on Tuesday. TG SAFE suspended the food safety licences of NR’s Nandini Sudha in Chikkadpally, Sai Darshini and Universal Restaurant in Vengal Rao Nagar, and Harsha Delux Mess in Ameerpet, directing all four establishments to stop operations immediately in the interest of public health.

Padmasree Canteen at the IACG Hostel Mess in Madhapur was also ordered to stop operations after officials found that it was functioning without an FSSAI licence and under unhygienic conditions. During the Hyderabad inspections, officials collected 16 food samples on suspicion of adulteration.

TG SAFE is also preparing show-cause notices for seven establishments. These include Imperial Multicuisine Restaurant in Hafeezpet; Kolkata House and Raju Gari Biryani in Madhapur; Anandobramha Fine Dine Restaurant and Rayalaseema Ruchulu in Ameerpet; and Avuna Restaurant in Madhapur. The report did not specify the seventh establishment named for the notices.

An improvement notice will be issued to Absolute Barbeque in Jubilee Hills, after which officials will reinspect the establishment to verify compliance with food safety requirements. Further action, including penalties, will be initiated based on the findings.

The inspections place licensing and hygiene compliance at the centre of restaurant regulation in the city. The actions also show that enforcement is extending beyond metropolitan Hyderabad to eateries along major urban and regional food-service networks in Nalgonda, Suryapet and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri. The immediate next steps are the issue of show-cause and improvement notices, laboratory or inspection-based follow-up, and decisions on penalties and continued operations.
