Hyderabad Emerges as Key Travel Hub for Tirupati Pilgrims
Hyderabad: Bus travel from Hyderabad to Tirupati has witnessed a significant rise ahead of the weekend and the ongoing Jyeshta Abhishekam celebrations, with the city emerging as one of the busiest departure hubs for pilgrims and leisure travellers.
According to data shared by online ticketing platform RedBus, bus bookings from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are projected to increase by 22 percent compared to the same period last year. The surge reflects growing demand for pilgrimage travel as well as seasonal weekend trips. Routes connecting Hyderabad with Tirupati, Vijayawada, Bengaluru and Chennai have recorded strong booking volumes in recent days. Within Hyderabad, major boarding points including MGBS, Kukatpally, Gachibowli, Miyapur, Lakdikapul and Ameerpet have experienced increased passenger activity.
Travel trends indicate a strong preference for comfort among long-distance travellers. AC buses accounted for 65 percent of bookings, while sleeper coaches represented 58 percent of reservations, highlighting demand for premium travel options. The data also revealed that young travellers aged between 18 and 30 years contributed nearly half of all bookings. Demand remained robust not only from Hyderabad but also from smaller towns and urban centres across Telangana.
Industry observers note that pilgrimage tourism continues to play a major role in regional travel demand, particularly during religious events and festive periods. Tirupati remains one of the most visited pilgrimage destinations in the country, attracting devotees from across southern India. The increase in bookings underscores Hyderabad’s growing importance as a travel hub and reflects broader trends in religious tourism, weekend travel and intercity connectivity across the region.
