Hyderabad Eatery Inspection Reveals Multiple Safety Violations

A food safety inspection at a café in Jubilee Hills has highlighted gaps in hygiene, documentation and basic food-handling practices, prompting action by authorities. The inspection is part of a wider enforcement drive across Hyderabad, where officials have been checking restaurants and eateries for compliance with food safety requirements.

The Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team (H-FAST), working with the GHMC Food Safety team, inspected Bhadrachalam Cafe following an online complaint concerning food safety and hygiene. Officials recorded several shortcomings during the inspection. Among the issues identified were the absence of a displayed FSSAI licence, inadequate kitchen lighting, uncovered waste bins and a lack of fly-control equipment. Inspectors also noted problems with the separation of the washing area and deficiencies in food-handler medical documentation. Food storage practices also came under scrutiny. Officials found food items that were not appropriately covered or labelled, while pest-control and stock records were reportedly unavailable. The kitchen was also found to require improvements in general hygiene.

The inspection findings were documented and the person responsible for the establishment was handed over to the food safety officer for further action under applicable regulations. The case comes as food safety enforcement in Hyderabad expands across different categories of eateries. Recent inspections have identified concerns ranging from poor sanitation and stagnant water to pest activity, documentation gaps and the use of ingredients that may not comply with food safety requirements. For consumers, the issue extends beyond the cleanliness of individual restaurants. Food businesses operate within a wider public health system in which licensing, traceability, staff health checks, storage standards and pest management are intended to reduce contamination risks.

Regular inspections can help identify violations, but sustained compliance requires more than periodic raids. Restaurants also need clear internal systems for recording food purchases, monitoring storage conditions, training staff and maintaining hygiene throughout operating hours. The enforcement activity also has an economic dimension. Hyderabad’s restaurant and hospitality sector is expanding alongside the city’s growing workforce, tourism and urban population. Maintaining food safety standards is therefore important not only for consumer protection but also for building trust in the city’s food-service ecosystem. For authorities, transparent inspections and timely follow-up will be important to ensure violations are corrected rather than simply recorded. For food businesses, maintaining basic hygiene, documentation and food-handling standards remains an essential part of responsible urban commerce. As inspections continue across Hyderabad, stronger compliance could help reduce avoidable food safety risks while giving consumers greater confidence in the establishments they choose.
