Hyderabad Development Plan Sets ₹84,790 Crore City Push

The Telangana government has announced an ₹84,790-crore development plan for Hyderabad and its surrounding areas, covering infrastructure, water supply, civic amenities, roads and the first phase of the Musi rejuvenation project. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said the plan is intended to transform the city into a world-class urban centre.

Mr. Vikramarka announced the plan while addressing the NAREDCO Telangana Property Show at HITEX in Hyderabad. He said designs and tendering processes had been initiated for projects worth nearly ₹55,000 crore, while other works were at different stages of implementation.

The largest allocation, ₹52,706 crore, has been earmarked for infrastructure development through the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, Hyderabad Growth Corridor, Metro Rail and other agencies. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has been allocated ₹15,849 crore for water and sewerage-related works.

The plan also includes allocations for urban local bodies. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has been assigned ₹4,000 crore, while ₹2,500 crore has been allocated to the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation and ₹2,163 crore to the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation. The Hyderabad Road Development Corporation will receive ₹500 crore for road works.

The Deputy Chief Minister also said the government had plans to invest nearly ₹93,000 crore in road infrastructure across Telangana. The announcement did not specify the individual projects, execution schedules or completion timelines under the wider road investment plan.

Addressing the real estate and construction sectors, Mr. Vikramarka said the government viewed them as wealth creators and partners in the State’s development. He urged developers to give greater importance to affordable housing for poor and middle-class households instead of focusing only on luxury residential projects.

The announcement places housing demand alongside the planned expansion of infrastructure and civic services. However, the government did not provide a project-wise breakdown of the affordable housing component or identify specific locations, targets and delivery timelines for such housing in the material available.

The Musi rejuvenation project is another major component of the plan. Mr. Vikramarka said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was determined to transform the polluted river into an economic and tourism asset for Hyderabad. The first phase, involving works worth approximately ₹7,500 crore, is being prepared for launch.

The government has also introduced the HILT Policy to make Hyderabad environmentally sustainable, according to the Deputy Chief Minister. Industries located within the Outer Ring Road limits are planned for phased relocation outside the city to reduce pollution. The announcement did not specify the industries covered, relocation sites or the implementation schedule.

The next stated milestones are the launch of the first phase of the Musi project and the progression of projects for which designs and tendering have begun. Further details on project-wise scopes, tenders, timelines and affordable housing targets will determine how the announced allocation translates into urban works.
