Hyderabad Clears Major Airport Connectivity Flyover Project
Hyderabad is set to strengthen its airport connectivity and urban mobility network after the Telangana government approved the construction of a six-lane bi-directional grade separator connecting Katedan Junction, Mylardevpally and the Shamshabad Road corridor.
The project, approved under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) programme, aims to address growing traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest southern corridors. With increasing industrial activity, commercial development and airport-bound traffic, the Katedan–Mylardevpally stretch has emerged as a major bottleneck affecting daily commuters and freight movement. The new grade separator is designed to provide signal-free movement across three critical junctions, improving travel efficiency and reducing delays for vehicles heading towards Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and surrounding areas. Urban transport experts note that strategic flyover projects can significantly improve corridor capacity while reducing travel time and vehicle operating costs.
The project forms part of Hyderabad’s broader infrastructure modernisation strategy focused on enhancing connectivity across major growth corridors. Several H-CITI projects are already under implementation, including infrastructure works at KBR Park Junction, Fox Sagar Bridge and the Gachibowli IIIT Junction, while additional flyovers are planned at Panjagutta NFCL Junction, Alwyn Colony and Rasoolpura. Following the completion of the tender process, KNR Constructions Limited emerged as the selected executing agency after submitting the lowest financial bid. The government has directed officials to utilise H-CITI funds, complete contractual formalities and begin project execution.
Once operational, the flyover is expected to improve airport access for residents across several southern and eastern Hyderabad neighbourhoods, including Falaknuma, Bahadurpura, Bandlaguda, Chandrayangutta, Santosh Nagar, Saidabad and IS Sadan. Infrastructure planners believe the project will not only strengthen airport connectivity but also support smoother movement across industrial and residential zones, contributing to Hyderabad’s long-term mobility and economic growth objectives.
