A four-storey residential building developed a sudden and noticeable tilt in Gopanpally’s NTR Nagar on Friday afternoon, prompting officials to evacuate its occupants and nearby residents and cordon off the surrounding area as engineering teams assessed the structure’s stability.
The incident occurred at about 1 pm in the Serilingampally Zone of Hyderabad. Officials from the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC), along with local engineering and town-planning departments, reached the site after the building began showing signs of instability.
According to Telangana Today, all occupants of the building were evacuated, along with residents from nearby areas, to prevent casualties. The structure stands on a compact plot measuring about 50 square yards. CMC officials have restricted access around the building while technical teams inspect the site.
The immediate cause of the tilt has not been established. Engineering officials are examining the building and its foundation, with further details awaited on whether structural weakness, foundation failure or other construction-related factors contributed to the incident. The building was described as being in a precarious condition, prompting concern among local residents that it could collapse.
The evacuation follows a fatal building collapse in the wider Gachibowli area. On August 22, an illegal seven-storey apartment in nearby Anjaiah Nagar collapsed, killing two people. The proximity and timing of the two incidents have heightened concern among residents about unauthorised construction, building standards and foundation safety in parts of Hyderabad undergoing rapid development.
The latest incident also places attention on the responsibilities of municipal, engineering and town-planning authorities after a building shows signs of structural distress. In this case, officials have secured the immediate vicinity while the inspection continues, but no final assessment of the building’s condition or the action to be taken has yet been announced.
The CMC’s engineering teams are expected to complete their inspection and determine the building’s structural stability and the cause of the tilt. Until that assessment is made, the cordoned-off area remains under precautionary restrictions.
