Hyderabad Boosts Waste Management With Special Drive
Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has launched a six-day special sanitation campaign to accelerate the clearance of legacy waste and unattended garbage across key parts of the city. Branded as the “Beyond Routine – Extra Hour Clean-up Drive,” the initiative extends daily sanitation operations with dedicated teams and additional machinery to improve urban cleanliness and public health.
The Cyberabad legacy waste drive began at Srila Park Road in KPHB Colony, where sanitation workers removed accumulated waste on the opening day. Over the next six days, the campaign will expand in phases across the Kukatpally, Serilingampally and Quthbullapur zones, focusing on identified locations with long-pending waste accumulation. Municipal authorities have deployed specialised sanitation teams and equipment to carry out an additional hour of focused cleaning beyond regular operations. The objective is to eliminate legacy waste that contributes to environmental pollution, foul odours, pest infestations and public health concerns while improving the appearance and hygiene of neighbourhoods. Urban planners say the Cyberabad legacy waste drive reflects the increasing importance of proactive waste management in fast-growing metropolitan regions. Timely removal of accumulated garbage can improve public spaces, reduce health risks and support cleaner, more liveable communities.
Experts also note that sustained improvements will depend on strengthening waste segregation, scientific processing and regular collection systems. Without public participation and consistent enforcement against illegal dumping, legacy waste can quickly reappear despite intensive clean-up efforts. The municipal corporation has urged residents to hand over segregated waste only to authorised door-to-door collection vehicles and avoid disposing of garbage on roadsides or vacant plots. Officials emphasise that community participation remains essential for maintaining long-term sanitation standards.
