The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has directed agencies to accelerate utility shifting and construction activity on the 4.3-km H-CITI elevated corridor around KBR National Park, in a move aimed at speeding up the project’s implementation and improving traffic movement through one of Hyderabad’s busiest corridors.
GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan and senior officials reviewed the project on Saturday and instructed the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited to expedite the relocation of electrical networks and other utilities obstructing the works around KBR National Park.
The H-CITI project is planned to provide signal-free traffic movement between Jubilee Hills Checkpost and NFCL Junction. Its alignment includes sections near KBR Park, Mugdha Junction and other important junctions that connect major residential, commercial and institutional areas of western Hyderabad.
During the review, officials were directed to fast-track junction improvement works at the KBR Park main entrance, Agrasen Junction and Jubilee Hills Checkpost. The works are intended to streamline one-way traffic around KBR Park while construction proceeds along the elevated corridor.
The instructions also cover foundation design investigations between Mugdha Junction and NFCL Junction. These investigations are an important preparatory stage for determining foundation requirements and enabling the construction teams to proceed with the corridor’s structural works.
Foundation excavation and off-site steel fabrication between Jubilee Hills Checkpost and Mugdha Junction were also ordered to be expedited. Steel fabrication away from the construction site is expected to support the project’s execution by allowing structural components to be prepared separately while work continues along the road corridor.
Utility relocation is a critical coordination task for elevated road projects in built-up areas. Electrical networks and other services located within the construction zone can affect foundation work, junction redesign and traffic management if they are not shifted in sequence with the civil works. The GHMC’s directive places the power distribution utility at the centre of the immediate implementation process.
The project’s construction zone around KBR National Park also includes junctions that carry traffic between Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Film Nagar and routes towards the north-western parts of Hyderabad. The latest review focused on keeping these junctions operational while the corridor’s foundations, utility shifting and associated improvements advance.
The GHMC has not provided a revised completion deadline or details of the traffic diversions that may be required during the accelerated works. The next implementation milestones identified in the review are faster utility relocation, completion of foundation investigations, foundation excavation, steel fabrication and junction improvement works along the project alignment.
