The proposed Uppal flyover has moved into a fresh planning review as the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation examines approach roads, possible land acquisition and traffic-management measures at Uppal and Habsiguda junctions in Hyderabad.
Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation Commissioner T Vinay Krishna Reddy directed officials to prepare a comprehensive blueprint to ease congestion, widen roads and improve connectivity at Habsiguda X Roads and Uppal X Roads. The review took place during his visit to the two junctions on Saturday.
At Habsiguda X Roads in Nacharam Circle, the Commissioner reviewed junction improvements, road-widening possibilities and traffic-management measures with officials. He asked them to assess whether vehicles could be diverted through internal colony roads at suitable locations to reduce pressure on the main junction.
The proposed diversions are among the measures being considered to improve traffic movement around Habsiguda. The municipal officials have been asked to examine the feasibility of using internal roads while preparing the wider decongestion plan. The available information does not specify which colony roads may be used or whether any traffic restrictions will be introduced.
At Uppal X Roads in Uppal Circle, Reddy and officials from the MMC projects engineering wing reviewed land acquisition proposals for developing left-hand and right-hand approach roads. These roads are proposed to run parallel to the Metro Rail corridor and serve the planned Uppal flyover.
The approach roads are intended to improve connectivity to the flyover and support traffic flow around Uppal X Roads. The review places road access and land requirements alongside the flyover proposal, indicating that the junction-level works will depend not only on the structure itself but also on the roads connecting vehicles to it.
The municipal corporation has also directed engineering officials to propose additional measures to improve connectivity and traffic movement in Uppal. No final road-widening design, land acquisition area, project cost, construction schedule or completion deadline was provided in the report.
Habsiguda and Uppal are important junction areas on Hyderabad’s eastern side, where traffic movement is affected by the interaction of arterial roads, local access routes and the Metro Rail corridor. The measures under review therefore include both physical changes, such as widening and approach-road construction, and operational interventions, such as diverting vehicles through internal roads.
The next step is the preparation of the comprehensive blueprint and proposals by the municipal engineering officials. These submissions will determine the specific road-widening, diversion and approach-road measures to be taken forward at the two junctions.
