The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has issued a notification regarding a planned 36-hour water supply disruption set to commence from 10 am on April 8 until 10 pm on April 9 in various parts of the city.

The temporary cessation of water services is attributed to the ongoing construction of the master storm drainage system spanning from Basai Chowk to Hero Honda Chowk. This significant infrastructure project necessitates the interruption of water supply to facilitate seamless execution and completion of the drainage construction works. Residents across multiple areas of Gurugram are advised to make necessary arrangements and preparations to mitigate the impact of the impending water shutdown.
Areas expected to experience water supply disruptions during this period include Basai, Chakarpur, Sikanderpur, Kadipur, Nathupur, Sirhaul, Gaushala, Dundahera, Sukrali, and various sectors encompassing 37, 34, 10A, 14, 16, 17, 18, 15 I, 15 II, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 38, 39, 40, 41, 43, 45, 46, Civil Lines, and Hans Enclave. Additionally, parts of DLF Phase I to IV, South City I, Cyber City, Sushant Lok I, Udyog Vihar Phase I and II, and MG Road will also be affected by the water shutdown. To minimise inconvenience and potential water scarcity during this period, the GMDA advises residents to utilise water resources prudently and efficiently in the days leading up to the scheduled disruption. By exercising caution and adopting water conservation measures, individuals and communities can help mitigate the impact of the temporary water supply interruption and ensure minimal disruption to daily routines and activities.
The proactive communication and coordination by the GMDA underscore its commitment to infrastructure development while prioritising the welfare and convenience of Gurugram’s residents. Despite the short-term inconvenience posed by the water shutdown, the anticipated completion of the master storm drainage project promises long-term benefits in terms of enhanced urban resilience and improved infrastructure for the city’s growing population and economy. A GMDA official said, “The construction of the master storm drainage from Basai Chowk to Hero Honda Chowk will lead to a temporary shutdown of the water supply from the Basai water treatment plant to the boosting station at Sector 16.” The official added that the construction work will lead to a shutdown of supply via the 1,300 mm pipeline, which is crucial for several sectors and localities. He further said that the general public has been notified about the water supply disruption and has been advised to be prepared and store enough water beforehand.
