Gujarat is poised for a shift in weather patterns as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts unseasonal rainfall across various districts from May 3 to May 9, 2025. This development is anticipated to provide respite from the prevailing heatwave conditions, with temperatures expected to decrease by 2–4°C during this period.
The IMD’s bulletin indicates that on May 3, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) is likely at isolated places in North Gujarat’s Banaskantha and Sabarkantha districts, as well as in Kutch. Subsequent days will see the spread of these conditions to additional districts, including Patan, Mehsana, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, and Chhota Udepur. Saurashtra-Kutch regions such as Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu are also expected to experience similar weather patterns. By May 5, the southern districts of Gujarat—Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Valsad, Navsari, Dangs—and the Union Territories of Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli are projected to receive rainfall. This trend is expected to continue, with varying intensities, across the state through May 9.
The anticipated rainfall is attributed to a cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan and its neighboring areas, influencing the weather patterns in Gujarat. This system is expected to bring about a significant change in the prevailing hot and dry conditions. Residents are advised to stay informed through official weather updates and take necessary precautions during this period of changing weather conditions.
