Greater Noida Society Theft: Keys Used to Steal Rs 1 Crore in Jewellery

A theft of jewellery estimated at nearly Rs 1 crore has been reported from an apartment in ATS Dolce Society in Sector Zeta-1, Greater Noida, after a family returned from Bihar and found an almirah and locker opened without signs of forced entry. Surajpur police have begun investigating the case and are examining whether someone familiar with the flat had access to its keys.

According to the complaint filed by Aparna Jha, she travelled to her ancestral home in Munger, Bihar, on October 17. When she returned to the flat on the night of October 21, she found the room disturbed, the almirah open and belongings scattered. Jewellery belonging to Jha and her mother, reportedly kept inside the almirah and locker, was missing.

The report said the main door, almirah and locker had not been broken. Police are therefore examining the possibility that the items were opened using keys. Investigators are also trying to determine how the person who entered the flat knew where the keys and locker were kept, according to the details provided in the complaint and the initial police inquiry.

Jha, who works as a school teacher, told the police that the missing jewellery included gold and silver ornaments. The value of the stolen items has been estimated at around Rs 1 crore. The exact inventory and valuation will be established as part of the investigation and the complainant’s documentation.

The family also told investigators that the intruders allegedly drank alcohol inside the drawing room and left the bathroom dirty. These details have led the family to suspect that the people involved may have remained inside the flat for several hours rather than carrying out a hurried entry and exit. The report does not establish who entered the apartment or how access was obtained.

Police are examining footage from cameras installed in and around the society as part of the investigation. Officers are also checking whether domestic help or a vehicle cleaner could have been involved. This line of inquiry remains under investigation, and no individual has been identified or confirmed as responsible in the supplied report.

The case places attention on access control inside high-rise housing societies, where residents, domestic workers, maintenance personnel and service providers may move through shared spaces. The immediate investigation will focus on CCTV footage, access records, the use of keys and the list of people who may have known the family’s travel plans. Surajpur police are continuing the inquiry.
