A deteriorated section of a rooftop parapet wall collapsed from a seven-storey MHADA building in Shivajinagar, Govandi, on Sunday evening, seriously injuring a 17-year-old girl who was passing along the road. The incident occurred at around 6.54 pm at Building 8B in the MHADA colony at Natwar Parekh Compound.
The injured girl was identified as Kajal Jaiswal. The collapsed section fell directly on her as she walked past the building, causing serious injuries. Doctors said her condition was critical, according to the report.
Local residents informed the fire brigade about the incident. Before fire brigade personnel reached the site, Jaiswal was taken to Sion Hospital in a private vehicle for treatment. She remained under medical care on Monday.
Fire brigade personnel found that a portion of the rooftop parapet had become dangerous and was hanging from the building. Using bamboo and other equipment, they brought down the remaining hazardous section to prevent it from falling further.
The fire brigade and local authorities cordoned off the area as a precaution. The restricted zone covered the immediate area around the building and the section where the parapet had collapsed.
The incident involved a rooftop parapet wall that had deteriorated over time, the report said. No further details were provided about the building’s maintenance history, whether an inspection had been conducted before the collapse, or who would be responsible for repairs.

Jaiswal’s treatment was continuing at Sion Hospital, with doctors describing her condition as critical. The area remained cordoned off as a precaution after the fire brigade completed the removal of the dangerous section.
