GIFT City Exchange Extends Trading to Nearly 24 Hours

NSE International Exchange (NSEIX) in Gujarat’s GIFT City has extended its trading hours to 23 hours and 30 minutes a day, creating an almost continuous market window for participants across Asian, European and American time zones. The new schedule took effect on November 2, 2026, with trading beginning at 3:15 AM IST and ending at 2:45 AM IST the following day.

The exchange said the longer operating window would give international investors and trading participants greater flexibility to respond to developments in overseas markets. The change allows market access through most major global trading hours and is intended to help participants manage market exposure across different time zones.

NSEIX described the move as part of its effort to strengthen GIFT City’s position as an international financial centre connecting India with global capital markets. In a statement, the exchange said the launch established a “global benchmark” for providing a continuous market for nearly 24 hours across five days a week.

V. Balasubramaniam, managing director and chief executive officer of NSEIX, said the extension was an important milestone in creating a globally accessible marketplace from GIFT City. He said the longer window would provide participants with greater flexibility and strengthen the city’s connectivity with international financial markets.

The extended schedule will require the exchange’s technology and operational systems to support activity across a substantially longer daily cycle. NSEIX said its infrastructure enables rapid system maintenance and updates, with maintenance completed within three minutes between sessions and in less than 15 minutes at the end of the day.

NSEIX operates as an international multi-asset exchange in GIFT City and is recognised by the International Financial Services Centres Authority. It was established on June 5, 2017, and offers Indian single-stock derivatives, index derivatives, currency derivatives, depository receipts and global stocks.

The revised timings give participants using NSEIX access to a market that overlaps with trading activity in multiple international regions. For GIFT City, the operational change adds to the financial district’s effort to build market infrastructure that can serve international investors from an Indian base.

NSEIX said it would continue expanding international market access and developing market infrastructure in response to the requirements of global participants. The nearly 24-hour schedule is now operational under the exchange’s revised trading framework.
