Ghaziabad Police Remove 9 Sub-Inspectors After Lapses in Public Complaints

Ghaziabad police have removed nine sub-inspectors from active field duty after a departmental review found alleged lapses in handling public complaints, investigations and illegal activities across the city’s three police zones, according to a report by Live Hindustan – NCR published on October 31.

The action was taken by the deputy commissioners of police overseeing the City, Trans-Hindon and Rural zones. Four sub-inspectors from the City zone, three from the Trans-Hindon zone and two from the Rural zone were sent to the police lines, a measure that removes personnel from their current operational postings while departmental processes continue.

The review reportedly identified delays or shortcomings in resolving public complaints, irregularities in investigations and inadequate action against illegal activities in areas under the officers’ jurisdiction. The report also said that a preliminary inquiry had been ordered against Loni police station house officer Yogendra Singh over poor performance in resolving public complaints. Two other sub-inspectors were issued warnings.

Among the officers named in the action were Jeevesh Kumar Dev and Manish Kumar Singh of Vijay Nagar police station, Pankaj Kumar Verma of Sihani Gate police station and Harshmani Tiwari, who was posted as the in-charge of the Navayug Market outpost under the City zone. The report attributed the action to specific incidents and performance concerns recorded during the review.

Harshmani Tiwari faced action after a case involving alleged commercial sex activity came to light at a hotel in the area. Pankaj Kumar Verma was cited in connection with alleged irregularities in an investigation and allegations of favouring one side in a case related to a gurdwara. The report did not provide details of the investigative findings or indicate whether these allegations had been finally established.

Manish Kumar Singh, who was in charge of the Sector 9 outpost in Vijay Nagar, was removed over alleged negligence in public hearings and poor performance in the Integrated Grievance Redressal System ranking. Jeevesh Kumar Dev faced action in connection with a case involving an elderly person who died in a road accident and was reportedly cremated as an unidentified person despite a missing-person report having been registered.

The disciplinary action comes alongside separate government orders against officials in the excise department. The district excise officer, Sanjay Kumar, and inspectors Akhilesh Singh and Chaman Singh were suspended over allegations that licensed controls were not effectively enforced against the serving of liquor without licences at nightclubs and the sale of liquor from other states.

Sanjay Kumar has been attached to the office of the Excise Commissioner in Prayagraj during his suspension. The Meerut deputy excise commissioner has been appointed as the inquiry officer for the detailed investigation, according to the report. The action was ordered on Friday following directions from Uttar Pradesh Excise and Prohibition Minister of State (Independent Charge) Nitin Agarwal.
