Ghaziabad Development Authority has approved a plan to build a two-kilometre, four-lane elevated road on the congested GT Road corridor, along with an underpass to replace a railway crossing between the New Ghaziabad railway station and the LTH crossing. The proposals, approved at a meeting of the Urban Infrastructure Fund, involve works worth a total of ₹66.73 crore.
The elevated road will run from in front of the Ghanta Ghar Ramlila Ground through Chaudhary Mor to Bhatia Mor and the Aadhaar Seva Kendra. The route is among the city’s busiest stretches and regularly experiences traffic congestion, according to the report. The project was discussed and approved during a meeting chaired by Meerut Divisional Commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami at the Ghaziabad Development Authority office.
The authority has also approved the closure of the railway gate near DPSG and construction of an underpass between the New Ghaziabad railway station and the LTH crossing. The proposal is intended to address movement and safety issues at the existing railway crossing, although the report does not specify the construction timeline, design details or expected traffic capacity of the underpass.
The approvals form part of a wider package of transport, public facility and development proposals funded through the Urban Infrastructure Fund. The report did not provide a detailed project-wise breakup of the ₹66.73 crore allocation or identify the agency responsible for executing each work.
The meeting also approved the construction of open gyms at 30 locations in parks and other sites across the Ghaziabad development area. The facilities are expected to cost ₹4.50 crore and are intended to provide residents with access to exercise facilities close to their homes. The report said work on the open gyms would begin soon, but did not give a specific start date or completion schedule.
Funding was also cleared for the remaining work at the under-construction Bunkar Mart in the Madhuban-Bapudham scheme. The authority had earlier approved ₹60 crore for the project, and the remaining amount will now be released for essential works. The report said revenue from the sale of plots in the scheme has helped accelerate development activity there.
The meeting further approved proposals concerning land owned by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. The land will be considered for acquisition through land pooling for a proposed cricket stadium. A draft memorandum of understanding and a feasibility report for the stadium were approved. The report said the project could support hotels, restaurants, tourism, transport, local businesses, sports training and event-related employment, but no construction schedule or investment estimate was provided.
Several land-use changes were also cleared. A 5,965.29-square-metre hotel plot in Shakti Khand 4 of the Indirapuram scheme was converted to residential use. Two group-housing plots measuring 12,868.88 square metres and 2,020 square metres in the Koyal Enclave residential scheme were also converted to residential use. In the Indraprastha residential scheme, a 4,353-square-metre plot was approved for plotted development and individual multi-residential units.
The elevated road, underpass and other proposals will now require project-level implementation steps, including detailed design, tendering and execution approvals. The report did not state when construction of the GT Road elevated corridor or the railway underpass is expected to begin.
