Indian Railways continues to dazzle the nation with its remarkable infrastructure achievements, exemplified by iconic bridges spanning across diverse landscapes.
In a recent video shared by the Railways Ministry, viewers were treated to breath-taking perspectives of four monumental railway bridges, each a testament to engineering prowess and innovation. The Chenab Bridge, standing as the world’s highest single-arch railway bridge, commands attention with its majestic presence. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year, this architectural marvel connects Bakkal and Kauri in Jammu and Kashmir, serving as a crucial link between Katra and Banihal. Rising 1,178 feet above the riverbed, it surpasses the height of Paris’ Eiffel Tower by 35 meters, symbolising India’s engineering excellence on a global scale. Another landmark achievement is the Bogibeel Bridge, India’s longest rail-cum-road bridge spanning 4,940 meters over the Brahmaputra River. Remarkably, it is the country’s first fully welded steel bridge, boasting a serviceable period of approximately 120 years. Significantly reducing travel time between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam to four hours, and cutting down the Delhi to Dibrugarh journey to 34 hours, it epitomises connectivity and progress in the Northeast region.
The Anji Khad Bridge, a marvel of cable-stayed engineering, marks yet another milestone for India. Situated in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, it links the Katra and Reasi sections of the Jammu-Baramulla line, enhancing connectivity and accessibility in the region. Notably, it is the first cable-stayed bridge in the country, underscoring India’s commitment to advancing infrastructure standards. Adding to the list of architectural wonders is the New Pamban Bridge, poised to become India’s first vertical-lift bridge upon completion. Spanning 2.08 kilometres, it will connect the mainland with Rameswaram island, enhancing connectivity and accessibility to the revered pilgrimage site. With a deadline set for June 30, the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited is diligently working towards making this visionary project operational, symbolising progress and modernisation in India’s railway network. In essence, these extraordinary bridges not only signify technological achievements but also represent the nation’s aspirations for a more connected and prosperous future.
