A man from Dhamnod in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district has alleged that 15 to 20 people abducted and assaulted him for four to five hours on suspicion that he had informed authorities about a vehicle carrying illicit liquor. Dhamnod police have registered a case under relevant sections of the SC/ST Act and said further provisions may be added after the investigation.
Dulichand Jagdale, a resident of Sala Punarvas, alleged that he was taken away from behind his house around noon on Saturday. According to his account, he had returned from Indore at about 7am and later joined friends near the spot when an MUV with dark windows arrived. He said the group accused him of providing information about a liquor vehicle before forcing him into the vehicle.
Jagdale alleged that the group first took him to a wine shop in Guljhra, where he claimed the CCTV cameras had been switched off. He said he was then taken to Maheshwar Road, Sahastradhara Road and the Punarvas area during the episode. According to his complaint, the assailants beat him with an iron rod and plastic pipes, while one of them also threatened him with a knife.
He further alleged that the group took his mobile phone, two rings, a gold chain and purse. Jagdale also claimed that a video call was made during the incident to Pradyumn Jaiswal of Khalghat, who he alleged instructed the group to assault him. These allegations have not been independently established, and police investigation is continuing.
Jagdale’s wife, Reena, said that around a dozen men had taken her husband away after he joined people near their house. She sought action after learning of the alleged abduction and reached Dhamnod police station. Jagdale alleged that the group abandoned him outside the station after learning that a complaint had reached the police.
His family said he had visible injury marks on his face, back, waist and legs. The complaint has led to a case of assault and verbal abuse under relevant provisions of the SC/ST Act, according to Dhamnod police station in-charge Santosh Yadav. Yadav said additional sections would be invoked if the investigation establishes grounds for them.
The case places the alleged use of violence to identify or silence a suspected informant alongside questions about access to timely police protection in a semi-urban area. The police have not publicly confirmed the identities or number of all those allegedly involved, and the supplied report does not state whether arrests have been made. Further investigation by Dhamnod police remains the next official step.
