Delhi weather is likely to remain cloudy with light rain or drizzle across the National Capital Region through September 16, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting thunderstorms and showers in some areas over the coming days.
The forecast follows light rain in most parts of Delhi during the previous 24 hours. Some locations also recorded moderate rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning. The IMD has forecast another spell of light rain in Delhi-NCR on Saturday, with showers possible during the night as well.
Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 26.8 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung on Saturday, which was 1.2 degrees above the seasonal average. At Palam, the minimum temperature was 24.1 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal.
For Sunday, the IMD has forecast cloudy skies and light rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places from morning to afternoon. The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to remain between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius. Light rain may also occur at night.
The wet conditions are expected to continue on Monday, September 14. The IMD has forecast cloudy skies and light rain or drizzle at isolated locations between morning and afternoon, with another possibility of light rain from evening through the night. The maximum temperature is expected to remain between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius.
The forecast for September 15 and 16 indicates cloudy skies and light rain or drizzle at some locations from morning to afternoon, with thunderstorms possible. Delhi’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius on September 15. The IMD has also forecast maximum temperatures of 30 to 32 degrees Celsius for September 17 and 18.
The forecast places the capital’s short-term weather conditions within a wider rain pattern linked to a low-pressure area over south Chhattisgarh and adjoining regions. The system is expected to bring heavy rain at isolated places in Odisha, Chhattisgarh and eastern Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rain is also possible in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Telangana, Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan on September 13, while western Madhya Pradesh may receive heavy rain between September 13 and 14.
Despite the recent rain, Delhi’s air quality remained in the satisfactory category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. The city recorded an Air Quality Index of 63 at 9 am on Saturday.
The IMD’s forecast remains the immediate reference for rainfall and temperature conditions in Delhi-NCR through September 18, while local authorities and commuters will need to track updates for changes in rainfall intensity and thunderstorm activity.
