Delhi Traffic Police has announced restrictions and diversions on several major roads on Wednesday from 5am to 1pm because of the ‘Seva Jyoti’ programme at Indira Gandhi Stadium. The advisory affects routes around the stadium and adjoining central and east Delhi corridors, where vehicle movement will be controlled or diverted depending on traffic conditions and operational requirements.
The programme is being organised by the Delhi BJP to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years in public service. According to the traffic advisory reported by Live Hindustan, processions of party workers and supporters from organisational units across Delhi are also expected to reach the venue before the event.
Traffic movement will be regulated or diverted on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, Mahatma Gandhi Marg, IP Marg and Vikas Marg during the restriction period. The affected network includes roads that connect the Indira Gandhi Stadium area with central Delhi, the Ring Road and parts of east Delhi, meaning commuters travelling across these corridors may need to allow additional time.
The advisory specifically identifies sections of the Ring Road between Shanti Van Crossing, Rajghat and Bhairon Marg, as well as the Geeta Colony Flyover, IP Flyover and Salimgarh Bypass. Traffic will also be controlled on the W-Point–Delhi Gate stretch and on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg between Delhi Gate and Rajghat.
Other routes listed as likely to be affected include the Rajghat–Kisan Ghat and Power House Road corridor, along with IP Marg and Vikas Marg. Delhi Traffic Police said restrictions would be implemented according to traffic conditions and operational requirements. The advisory asks residents to begin their journeys early and avoid the affected roads where possible.
Additional controls will apply on Secretariat Road and Velodrome Road. No traffic will be permitted on these roads from 6am, according to the advisory. The restriction timings therefore differ slightly across the affected network, with the broader set of controls beginning at 5am and the complete prohibition on the two specified roads beginning at 6am.
The announcement follows traffic disruption in several parts of Delhi on Tuesday during a protest by Congress leaders and other MPs demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. Live Hindustan reported that movement was affected around Jantar Mantar, Parliament Street and nearby areas, with barricading and diversions forcing commuters to take longer routes. Wednesday’s restrictions are separate and have been announced in connection with the stadium programme.
Delhi Traffic Police has not indicated that all listed roads will remain closed for the entire period. Instead, the advisory says movement will be controlled or diverted as required. Commuters using central Delhi, the Ring Road, IP Marg, Vikas Marg or routes near the stadium are advised to plan around the stated timings and follow instructions from traffic personnel at the affected junctions.
