Cyclone Murasu Puts Nagarkurnool on Orange Alert as Winds Near 90 kmph

Nagarkurnool district in Telangana has been placed under an orange alert from 8.30 am on November 2 to 8.30 am on November 3 as Cyclone Murasu is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds, prompting the district administration to issue a public safety advisory.

District Collector Hemanta Keshav Patil has urged residents to follow advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department and take necessary precautions during the alert period. Wind speeds are expected to reach between 60 kmph and 90 kmph, creating risks around trees, electric poles, hoardings and other exposed structures.

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel while the orange alert is in force. The administration has also asked people to stay away from trees, electric poles and hoardings, and to avoid open areas during lightning. These precautions are intended to reduce exposure to falling objects, electrical hazards and lightning-related incidents during periods of severe weather.

People living in low-lying areas have been asked to remain alert as heavy rainfall may affect local conditions. The district advisory also asks residents to keep livestock in safe places during the period of strong winds and intense rain.

The alert is part of a wider weather watch for the district. A yellow alert has been issued for November 3 and 4, indicating that residents will need to continue monitoring official updates after the orange-alert period ends. The administration has directed residents to rely on IMD advisories for information on changing weather conditions.

The warning also has implications for movement and basic services in areas exposed to rainfall, lightning and high winds. Avoiding unnecessary travel can help reduce risks on local roads, while staying clear of electric poles and hoardings is particularly important where weather conditions may weaken or dislodge structures. The advisory does not announce any specific road closures or service disruptions.

For emergencies, residents can contact the Nagarkurnool district helpline at 9866756825. The district administration has asked people to use the helpline when assistance is required and to continue following official safety instructions through the alert period.
