Delhi Traffic Jam Worsens on Ring Road After Heavy Vehicle Breakdown

Traffic on Delhi’s Ring Road from Sarai Kale Khan towards Ashram was disrupted on Saturday morning after a heavy goods vehicle broke down, blocking one lane and slowing movement in south Delhi. Traffic police personnel were present at the spot and were working to keep vehicles moving, according to a report by Jagran citing the Delhi Traffic Police.

The breakdown affected the carriageway connecting Sarai Kale Khan with Ashram, a busy route used by commuters and commercial vehicles. With one lane completely closed, motorists travelling through the stretch were warned to expect difficulty while the vehicle remained on the road.

The Delhi Traffic Police said the heavy vehicle could not be removed immediately with a crane because it was carrying excess weight. This prevented a quick clearance of the obstruction and kept one lane unavailable during the morning traffic period.

According to the report, efforts were under way to remove the vehicle, with the possibility that it would be cleared after 10 am. Traffic police officials were deployed at the location to regulate movement and reduce disruption as far as possible.

The incident highlights the operational vulnerability of major urban corridors when a single disabled heavy vehicle reduces the available road capacity. On a multi-lane route, the closure of one lane can slow traffic even when the remaining lanes are open, particularly during the morning movement period. The report, however, does not provide a traffic diversion plan, the exact length of the queue or an estimated clearance time beyond the expectation that removal could take place after 10 am.

The Delhi Traffic Police’s immediate response was focused on managing traffic at the site and removing the vehicle with assistance from a crane. Motorists using the Sarai Kale Khan–Ashram stretch were likely to face delays until the obstruction was cleared.
