Delhi traffic diversions will affect several key roads around Rajghat on Thursday from 10 am to 12 noon because of a VVIP movement linked to a special programme, the Delhi Traffic Police has warned. Commuters travelling through central Delhi have been advised to use alternative routes, leave with extra time and follow directions from traffic personnel.
The likely disruption will cover major stretches connecting ITO, Delhi Gate, Rajghat, Shanti Van and nearby parts of central Delhi. The traffic police said restrictions and diversions may be introduced depending on traffic conditions and operational requirements during the movement.
The affected corridors include Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg between ITO Chowk and Delhi Gate, and the stretch from Shanti Van Chowk to IP Flyover. Traffic may also be affected on Asaf Ali Road between Delhi Gate and Netaji Subhash Marg, between Guru Nanak Chowk and Ranjit Singh Flyover, and from Rajghat DTC Depot towards the Ring Road bypass.
The police also cautioned that vehicle movement could be affected from Shanti Van Chowk towards Nishad Raj Marg. If required, traffic will be diverted at ITO Chowk, Delhi Gate, Guru Nanak Chowk, Shanti Van Chowk and IP Flyover.
The advisory covers some of the most important road links between east-central Delhi, Old Delhi, the city centre and the Ring Road network. Even a time-bound restriction in this area can alter traffic movement across multiple junctions because vehicles approaching Rajghat are distributed through connecting roads rather than a single corridor.
Commuters using the affected routes have been asked to plan alternative paths, allow additional travel time and comply with instructions issued by traffic personnel. The police has also appealed to motorists not to park along the roadsides during the movement, so that available carriageway space is not reduced further.
The advisory does not announce a complete closure of all the listed roads. Instead, it states that restrictions and diversions may be imposed according to traffic conditions and operational needs. The exact intensity of the disruption will therefore depend on the movement and the deployment of traffic arrangements at the identified junctions.
For public transport users and motorists travelling through central Delhi during the two-hour window, the most significant impact is likely to be at the diversion points around ITO Chowk, Delhi Gate, Guru Nanak Chowk, Shanti Van Chowk and IP Flyover. Travellers heading towards offices, markets, government areas and connecting transport corridors have been advised to account for possible delays.
The traffic police’s advisory remains in force for the period from 10 am to 12 noon on Thursday, with route management to be carried out on the ground as required.
