The Delhi Traffic Police has announced diversions and regulated movement on key routes during the BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13, while the Delhi Metro will begin services at 6 am on Sunday to support students appearing for examinations and other passengers.
The traffic restrictions will apply from 9.30 am to 9 pm on the two summit days, according to an advisory issued by the Delhi Traffic Police. The regulations will cover key routes across the capital and areas around the notified Controlled Area during the movement of dignitaries.
In a post on X, the Delhi Traffic Police said temporary traffic regulations may be implemented as Delhi hosts the BRICS Summit 2026. The department asked commuters to plan their journeys in advance, allow additional travel time and use public transport, particularly the Metro, wherever feasible.
The advisory also directs motorists to follow designated diversion routes and instructions issued by traffic personnel. Emergency and essential-service vehicles will be given priority passage during the regulated movement, the traffic police said.
The Delhi Traffic Police issued a second post specifying that diversions and regulated movement would operate from 09:30 hrs to 21:00 hrs on September 12. It advised commuters to plan their journeys ahead of time and factor in delays while travelling through affected parts of the city.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said services on all lines would commence at 6 am on Sunday, September 13. The early start is intended to facilitate the smooth and timely movement of students appearing for examinations as well as members of the general public.
“Early Resumption of Metro Services. To facilitate the smooth and timely movement of students appearing for examinations and the general public, Metro train services will commence at 06:00 AM on all lines on Sunday, 13th September 2026,” DMRC said in a post on X. It advised students and passengers to plan their journeys accordingly.
The traffic and Metro advisories coincide with India hosting the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. India’s chairship of the grouping is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, with a stated focus on development, sustainability and innovation.
For commuters, the measures mean that route conditions may change during the movement of dignitaries, making advance journey planning and reliance on public transport particularly important during the notified hours. The authorities have asked travellers to follow on-ground instructions and use the designated diversions during the summit period.
