The Delhi government has approved a ₹152 crore Delhi Sadan in Dwarka’s Sector 19, a dedicated state guest house intended to accommodate visiting dignitaries, government officials and other official guests. The project is expected to be completed within 21 months after the required approvals are secured.
The proposed building will come up on Plot No. 5 in Sector 19 on approximately 3,899.42 square metres of land. The Delhi government currently does not have its own dedicated state guest house, according to officials cited in the report, making accommodation and hospitality arrangements for visitors more difficult during official meetings, conferences and government programmes.
The approval was granted at a recent meeting of the Delhi government’s Expenditure Finance Committee, chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The proposal was considered on the recommendation of the Tourism Department before receiving financial approval.
Officials said the Delhi Sadan will include modern facilities and provide secure and convenient accommodation for government guests. The facility is also expected to offer a reliable and comparatively lower-cost accommodation option for guests visiting Delhi from different parts of India and from abroad for official purposes.
The building’s design will incorporate architectural elements associated with medieval Delhi. The proposal therefore combines the functional requirement for a state guest house with a design intended to reflect the capital’s historical architectural character.
The land for the project was allotted to the Tourism Department by the Delhi Development Authority in March 2020. With financial approval now in place, the construction process can move forward after the relevant agencies grant the required permissions.
The project had also been pursued by the previous Aam Aadmi Party government, but the plan did not progress for various reasons, the report said. The latest approval restarts the proposal and establishes the estimated project cost, site and completion timeline.
Construction is expected to take about 21 months once the necessary approvals are obtained. The Delhi government’s next steps are to secure those permissions and advance the project on the allotted Dwarka plot.
