A Delhi rape-case accused has been brought back to India from the United Arab Emirates after Delhi Police coordinated with Interpol, Bharatpol, the Central Bureau of Investigation and UAE authorities, officials said in a report published on Thursday. The accused, identified as Sajir Palli Moopan alias Sajir PM, was handed over to a Delhi Police team in the UAE after extradition formalities were completed.
The accused, a resident of Kannur in Kerala, had been working as a senior manager at a multinational company, according to the report. Police allege that he took a 20-year-old woman to a birthday party at a lounge in Punjabi Bagh and later brought her to a hotel in Karol Bagh, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted in the early hours of October 2, 2025.
According to the complaint, the woman had attended the company employees’ birthday party on the night of October 1, 2025. She alleged that the accused made her consume alcohol and narcotic substances before taking her to the hotel. Police also alleged that he used another person’s identity documents during hotel check-in to conceal the woman’s identity.
The woman initially reported the matter to the company management. The company issued the accused a show-cause notice on October 4, 2025, and began proceedings through its internal committee under the framework for prevention of sexual harassment of women at the workplace. The report said the accused did not participate in the internal inquiry and remained absent from the company from October 4, amid the possibility of legal action.
The woman sent another formal complaint to company officials by email on December 18, 2025. She said the accused had left India on January 5, 2026, and later worked at a plumbing accessories shop in Dubai. She approached Delhi Police on February 18, after which a case was registered at Karol Bagh police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
During the investigation, police arranged the woman’s medical examination and recorded her statement through the legal process. Investigators collected technical and documentary evidence from the Punjabi Bagh lounge and the Karol Bagh hotel, including hotel records, CCTV footage and identity documents, the report said.
The initial investigation took the police team to Kerala, where officers learned that the accused had already left India. Further technical investigation indicated that he had travelled to the UAE on January 5, 2026. A communication seeking international assistance was initiated through Bharatpol on April 30, 2026. A dedicated team, including Sub-Inspectors Sandeep and Kajal Tyagi, was formed to coordinate with the CBI and other agencies.
After the required process to declare him a fugitive was completed, Interpol issued a Red Corner Notice against him on July 7, 2026. Bharatpol, developed by the CBI, was used to facilitate secure information exchange with Interpol and international assistance requests.
The competent authority in Abu Dhabi approved the extradition request on October 9, 2026. A Delhi Police team then travelled to the UAE to complete the remaining legal and administrative formalities. The accused has now been returned to India, where further action will proceed according to law. The allegations remain subject to judicial determination.
