Delhi Railway Stations Set for CCTV and WiFi Upgrade
Delhi’s railway modernisation is moving beyond station architecture, with the next phase focusing on restoring and strengthening the digital systems that passengers rely on for safety and connectivity. Northern Railway has floated a tender to reinstall dismantled CCTV and Wi-Fi infrastructure at Amrit Bharat stations across the Delhi Division, linking the upgrade to the wider redevelopment of 13 stations under the scheme.
The project will bring back 167 CCTV cameras and 51 Wi-Fi access points, alongside optical fibre cables, network switches, equipment racks, power cables and HDPE ducts. The work is expected to cover installation, cable laying, system integration, power connections and testing before commissioning, with a nine-month completion timeline. The move highlights a recurring challenge in large infrastructure projects: modernisation can temporarily disrupt the systems that make public assets functional. In this case, surveillance and connectivity equipment was removed at several locations as station redevelopment progressed. Reinstalling the systems is therefore not simply an equipment upgrade; it is an attempt to ensure that digital infrastructure keeps pace with the physical transformation of the stations.
