Delhi Protest Triggers Massive 20,000-Force Security Deployment

More than 20,000 police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed across Delhi ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party’s proposed protest on October 10, with police warning that no permission has been granted for any gathering at Jantar Mantar and urging people to avoid unauthorised assemblies.

A senior Delhi Police officer said the deployment was made as a precautionary measure to prevent a breach of peace and ensure the movement of people and traffic across the city. The officer said the force was prepared to handle the law-and-order situation on Saturday.

“No permission has been granted so far for any protest at Jantar Mantar,” the officer said, according to Millennium Post. Prohibitory orders are already in force in the area, and the police have asked residents and visitors to comply with the restrictions.

The proposed demonstration is linked to demands by the Cockroach Janata Party and several student groups for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The groups have made allegations relating to the deletion of lakhs of voters across the country in connection with the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists. The report does not provide a response from the Election Commission or the Chief Election Commissioner to these allegations.

The heightened security arrangements are expected to affect access and movement around central Delhi, particularly if people attempt to assemble at or travel towards Jantar Mantar despite the absence of permission. Police have appealed to protesters and members of the public not to engage in violence or attack personnel deployed for security duties, warning that such acts would invite legal action.

The officer said personnel had been issued specific instructions on handling women protesters and avoiding unnecessary confrontation. Daily briefings are also being conducted to ensure that members of the deployed force follow common instructions while managing the situation.

Delhi Police have separately cautioned the public against believing or circulating unverified information on social media and other platforms. Residents have been asked to rely on the department’s official social media handles and verified communication channels for updates about restrictions, security arrangements and developments related to the protest.

The police said the arrangements would remain focused on maintaining peace, preventing unauthorised gatherings and ensuring that traffic and public movement continue as far as possible ahead of the proposed October 10 demonstration.
