Delhi Power Discoms Cut Festive Connection Wait to 24 Hours

Delhi power discoms BRPL and BYPL have introduced same-day temporary electricity connections for Durga Puja events, Ramlilas, Diwali melas, weddings and other gatherings, cutting the processing time from up to seven days to within 24 hours subject to prescribed formalities and technical feasibility.

The ‘Tatkal’ service is intended to give event organisers an authorised alternative to diesel generator sets and unauthorised wiring during the festive season. The service is available to eligible consumers through multiple application channels operated by the discoms and the Delhi government.

A BSES spokesperson said the initiative would use technology and streamlined processes to make temporary power connections more convenient. “Festivals are a time of celebration and togetherness, and reliable electricity plays an important role in making these occasions safe and enjoyable,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that temporary electricity connections could reduce dependence on diesel generators and support Delhi’s efforts to lower pollution. The discoms have urged organisers of Ramlilas, Durga Puja events, Diwali melas, weddings and other gatherings to use authorised connections rather than unauthorised wiring or generator sets.

Consumers can apply through the BSES website, the BRPL Power App, the BYPL Connect platform, WhatsApp, customer care centres and Digi Seva Kendras. Applications can also be submitted through the Delhi government’s Single Window System at the office of the concerned District Magistrate.

For BRPL consumers, applications and queries can be made through WhatsApp at 8800919123 or through the 19123 call centre. BYPL consumers can use WhatsApp number 8745999808 or call 19122. BSES said digital payment facilities would allow organisers to complete the process without physical paperwork or visits to offices.

The discoms have also placed their Operations and Maintenance teams on high alert in anticipation of increased electricity demand during the festive period. These teams will monitor the distribution network and remain prepared to respond to localised power-related issues during major celebrations.

The 24-hour service remains subject to completion of the required formalities and technical feasibility at the location. Organisers seeking temporary supplies will therefore need to apply through the designated channels before their events and comply with the conditions set by the discoms.
