Delhi Lieutenant Governor Sardar TS Sandhu has called for more visible, responsive and citizen-centric policing across the Capital, directing senior police officials to focus on measurable results, faster grievance handling and stronger links with local communities.
Sandhu issued the directions while addressing Delhi Police officials of Assistant Commissioner of Police rank and above at the Police Headquarters auditorium on Jai Singh Road. The interaction was held in the presence of the Commissioner of Police and marked his second visit to the headquarters after June 24, 2026.
The Lieutenant Governor reviewed changes made after his earlier visit, the public response to those initiatives and gaps that still require attention. He said the objective should be a safer Delhi and greater public confidence in the police. He also said police stations should be places where citizens feel heard, helped and safe.
Sandhu called for closer coordination between police stations, beat officers and local communities, along with increased foot and motorcycle patrolling in vulnerable, crime-prone and high-footfall areas. The locations identified included schools, colleges, markets and transport hubs, where police visibility is expected to be strengthened.
For complaints received through Jan Sunwai grievance hearings, he sought a digital tracking mechanism. Under the proposed system, each complaint would be acknowledged, tracked and acted upon within a defined timeline. Complaints that fall under other departments should be forwarded promptly to the concerned agency, according to the directions issued during the meeting.
Women’s safety was another focus of the review. Sandhu called for continued action against eve-teasing and harassment under Operation Shishtachar and proposed a Delhi Police “Pink Force”, modelled on the Goa Police, with trained women personnel deployed at schools, colleges, metro stations and other vulnerable hotspots.
He also called for regular school programmes covering the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, child safety, cybercrime, substance abuse and road safety. Sports activities for children aged between five and 15 were proposed as part of efforts to strengthen trust between police personnel and local communities.
The Lieutenant Governor directed the police to maintain intelligence-led action against drug trafficking under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. He also sought stronger handling of cybercrime complaints and digital evidence, as well as closer monitoring of congestion points through CCTV systems and Traffic Control Rooms.
Police welfare formed another part of the directions. Sandhu sought fixed-hour grievance hearings for personnel, timely promotions, particularly for lower-ranking staff and women personnel, and the development of police colonies as Model Zero-Waste Colonies. He reiterated a zero-tolerance position on corruption.
Sandhu also appreciated Delhi Police and other security agencies for the successful and secure conduct of the BRICS Summit. He said the operational lessons from the event would help strengthen preparedness for future major international events in Delhi.
