Delhi Police have registered a case against Mundka BJP MLA Gajendra Daral and several others after party worker Sunil Kumar alleged that he was confined and assaulted at a BJP office in Karala, with the complaint also invoking provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The police have begun investigating the allegations, while Daral has denied knowledge of the assault and questioned why he was being targeted.
According to the complaint reported by Jagran, the alleged incident began on the evening of 10 September when Daral called Kumar, identified as the president of Ward 32 mandal, and asked him to bring a ward voter list to the BJP office of Deepak Mathur in Karala. Kumar reportedly reached the office at about 8.15 pm with an associate, Jai Bhagwan, after being told that the MLA was in a meeting with an election officer.
Kumar alleged that several people were present at the office, including Daral, Deepak Mathur, Vivek, Mathur’s nephew Amit Mathur and four or five other party workers. He told police that Amit Mathur was called to the office, after which the shutter and cameras were closed and he was allegedly beaten. The complaint states that caste-based remarks were made during the incident and that Daral allegedly used a pipe and belt to assault him.
The complainant further alleged that Deepak Mathur, Amit Mathur and Vivek held his hands and legs while he was kicked and punched. He alleged that the assault included blows to different parts of his body, including his private parts, and that he became semi-conscious two or three times. Kumar also told police that he showed his injuries to Santosh Kaushik and Shalu Sharma during the night, but alleged that the assault resumed after they left.
The complaint states that Kumar was released at about 5.15 am on 11 September and was allegedly threatened with harm if he reported the incident. The police case includes provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including sections 115(2), 127(2), 140(3), 351(2), 61(2) and 3(5), along with Section 25 of the Arms Act and Sections 3(1)(r) and 3(1)(s) of the SC/ST Act.
Police have assigned the investigation to Inspector Kishan Yadav. The Kanjhawala police said they were examining the allegations, the location of the incident and the roles of the people named in the complaint on the basis of available evidence. The reported charges are allegations at this stage and will be tested during the investigation.
The matter also reached senior police officials after AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar accompanied Sunil Kumar to meet Rohini Deputy Commissioner of Police Shashank Jaiswal on Tuesday. The complainant was reportedly assured that appropriate action would be taken. Daral, however, rejected the allegations and said he had no information about any assault. The police investigation is the next formal step in determining what occurred at the office and the involvement of those named in the case.
