Delhi Metro Extends Services for 70,000-Strong JLN Stadium Concert

Delhi Metro services will run until midnight on Friday, October 30, to help an estimated 70,000 spectators travel to and return from singer Diljit Dosanjh’s concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, while traffic restrictions will remain in force around the venue from 1pm to midnight.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said additional train trips would be operated across its network, excluding the Airport Express Line and Rapid Metro in Gurugram. Standby trains will also be kept ready to respond to any unexpected increase in passenger numbers after the concert.

The revised arrangements will include an extension of the timing for purchasing QR tickets through the Delhi Metro Sarthi mobile application by one hour. Additional staff, customer service personnel and customer facilitation agents will be deployed at JLN Stadium Metro station and major interchange stations to guide passengers and manage movement.

Security arrangements will also be strengthened. The DMRC said additional personnel, door-frame metal detectors and enhanced screening measures would be used to support orderly passenger movement. JLN Stadium station, on the Violet Line between Kashmere Gate and Raja Nahar Singh, is the nearest Metro station to the concert venue.

Delhi Traffic Police has issued a separate advisory covering roads around the stadium. Traffic movement will be affected on Bhishm Pitamah Marg, Lodhi Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg between Defence Colony and Lodhi Colony Flyover, Arch Bishop Marg, 4th Avenue Road and 5th Avenue Road. Restrictions will also apply to the Barapullah Flyover stretch between INA and Jangpura Metro Gate 2, Dayal Singh College Road, and internal roads in CGO Complex and Lodhi Colony.

At the Lodhi Road-Dayal Singh College Road intersection, vehicles will not be allowed to enter Dayal Singh College Road. Traffic on Lodhi Road will continue towards Lodhi Flyover or Aurobindo Marg. Additional diversions may be activated at six identified points, with two more points available if required.

The traffic advisory recommends that spectators use the Metro. Passengers may use the Violet Line to reach JLN Stadium or Jangpura stations for Gates 13, 14 and 17. Those travelling on the Yellow Line can alight at INA or Jor Bagh and use designated drop-off points for Gates 3, 6 and 8. The Kushak Nallah Bus Depot red light has also been identified as a drop-off point for passengers travelling from the Yellow Line.

Taxis, auto-rickshaws and app-based cabs will be required to use designated pick-up and drop-off locations. Arch Bishop Marg and Lal Masjid in Pragati Vihar will serve passengers travelling to Gates 13, 14 and 17, while the Kushak Nallah Bus Depot red light will serve Gates 3, 6 and 8. Vehicles will not be allowed to halt or park along roadsides near the stadium.

There will be no parking facility for the general public at or around the venue. Limited parking will be available for special invitees at Sunehri Pula Bus Depot and the Dayal Singh College parking area. Emergency and medical vehicles will be given priority and provided obstruction-free passage during the restrictions.

Commuters have been advised to allow extra travel time, plan journeys in advance, follow instructions from traffic personnel and avoid roadside parking. The Delhi Traffic Police helpline is 1095, while emergencies can be reported on 112.
