The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will add 20 train trips on weekdays from Thursday as Delhi begins implementing Stage I of the Graded Response Action Plan, while also intensifying anti-pollution measures at construction sites and nearby areas.
The additional services were announced by the DMRC on Wednesday in a statement issued after GRAP-I came into effect in the national capital. The corporation said the extra trips are intended to encourage more people to use public transport instead of personal vehicles.
The weekday services will be operated across the Delhi Metro network, although the DMRC statement cited in the report did not specify the corridors, stations or time slots that will receive the additional trips. Commuters will therefore need to rely on the corporation’s operational updates for route-specific information.
The move links public transport operations with the city’s pollution-control response. By increasing the number of train trips on weekdays, the DMRC is seeking to provide additional capacity during a period when authorities are intensifying measures under GRAP-I. The announcement does not state whether the additional trips will be temporary or how long they will continue.
Alongside the service increase, the DMRC said it would strengthen measures to reduce dust at construction sites. The corporation will also take steps to remove road dust from roads surrounding these sites and clear garbage from footpaths and road medians.
These measures cover more than train operations. They extend the DMRC’s response to the areas around its construction activity, where dust, uncollected waste and roadside conditions can affect the public realm as well as the immediate surroundings of infrastructure works. The statement did not provide details on the number of construction sites covered, the equipment to be used or the frequency of the cleaning activity.
The DMRC’s announcement comes as GRAP-I is implemented in Delhi. The action combines a public transport intervention with dust-control and cleanliness measures at locations connected to metro construction. The corporation said the objective of the additional train trips was to support a shift away from private vehicles, while the site measures would focus on reducing dust and improving conditions around construction areas.
For passengers, the immediate change is the addition of 20 weekday trips from Thursday. For residents and road users near metro construction sites, the announced response includes dust reduction, road-dust removal and the clearing of garbage from footpaths and medians. The DMRC has not, in the supplied statement, released a detailed timetable or identified the specific sites where the intensified measures will be carried out.
The next operational step is the start of the additional weekday train trips on Thursday, alongside the DMRC’s intensified anti-pollution and cleaning measures at construction sites and surrounding areas.
