A 14-year-old boy was injured when the balcony slab of a house collapsed in Delhi’s Prem Nagar on Saturday morning while he was playing outside a lane, according to Live Hindustan – NCR. The boy suffered head injuries and received seven to eight stitches at Acharya Bhikshu Hospital before being discharged.
The incident occurred at around 11.30 am. The teenager was playing outside the lane when the slab suddenly fell on him. His mother reached the spot after hearing his cries and took him to the hospital for treatment.
Doctors treated the injuries to the boy’s head and discharged him after administering the stitches. He was reported to be at home and in a stable condition after the incident.
Delhi Municipal Corporation officials and the local councillor were informed after the collapse. They inspected the site, while police personnel also reached the area. Safety tape was placed around the house to prevent people from approaching the damaged section and to reduce the risk of another injury.
The boy’s parents said they did not want to initiate legal action against the property owner because the two families had known each other for around 40 years. The report did not mention whether the property had previously been identified for structural violations or whether a formal structural assessment had been ordered after the collapse.
The incident comes days after the collapse of a five-storey paying guest building in Satya Niketan in Delhi’s South Campus area. That accident, reported on September 6, killed seven people, including five students, and injured five others. Preliminary findings cited in the report indicated that the old building did not have pillars and that construction rules may not have been followed.
Delhi Police arrested the building’s owners, 81-year-old Hariram Gupta and his 75-year-old wife, Urmila Gupta, along with their 52-year-old son, Mahesh Gupta. The police also arrested Shubham Tyagi, who was operating the paying guest accommodation under the name Hostel Days, and 31-year-old Sudhanshu, a Delhi University graduate. Hariram and Urmila were sent to 14 days of judicial custody, while Mahesh was given two days of police custody after being produced in court.
Following the Satya Niketan collapse, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi intensified action against unsafe buildings, unauthorised construction and violations of building rules across the city. According to news agency Bhasha, the civic body carried out 33 demolition actions across all 12 zones on Saturday and sealed five properties. The next official steps in the Prem Nagar case, including any structural assessment or action concerning the building, were not specified in the report.
