Delhi has created 20 temporary ponds in the trans-Yamuna area for Ganesh idol immersion as authorities enforce a complete ban on immersions in the Yamuna. The temporary facilities have been filled with water by the Delhi Jal Board, while Delhi Police and civil defence volunteers will be deployed during immersions on Friday.
The arrangements have been made by the district administration at 20 locations across the trans-Yamuna area. According to Northeast Delhi district magistrate Ajay Kumar, the temporary ponds have been equipped with the facilities required for devotees during the immersion process.
Temporary ponds have been constructed at several locations, including Shastri Park and Karawal Nagar. Designated access points have also been identified so that devotees can bring idols to the ponds. The administration has arranged parking facilities and installed closed-circuit television cameras at the sites.
The Delhi Jal Board filled the temporary ponds with water on Thursday, ahead of the main immersion activity. Police officers and civil defence volunteers are scheduled to remain present at the locations on Friday to assist with crowd management and ensure that the arrangements are followed.
The administration has directed the police to prevent anyone from immersing idols in the Yamuna. The restriction applies throughout the river stretch in Delhi, while the temporary ponds are intended to provide an alternative location for the ritual.
The enforcement follows earlier immersion activity at temporary ghats. The report said that several people also carried out immersions at these sites on Thursday. The administration’s arrangements are aimed at directing remaining devotees to the designated ponds rather than the river.
The Yamuna immersion ban makes the temporary ponds the principal authorised locations for Ganesh visarjan in the trans-Yamuna area this year. Police deployment, CCTV monitoring, parking and designated routes are expected to remain part of the arrangements during Friday’s immersions.
