A 25-year-old e-rickshaw driver was allegedly stabbed to death by unidentified attackers in Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area late Saturday night, prompting his family and local residents to protest on Sunday and demand the arrest of those responsible. Police have registered a case and are examining CCTV footage from around the site.
The deceased was identified as Abhishek. According to a senior police officer cited in the report, he was attacked by people who arrived on a motorcycle. The assailants allegedly stabbed him before fleeing the area. Police have not yet established the motive for the killing or publicly confirmed the identities of any suspects.
Abhishek’s father, Shobhram Prajapati, said his son drove an e-rickshaw and was the family’s only source of support. He alleged that no one came forward to help after the attack and that Abhishek remained on the road while suffering heavy blood loss.
Prajapati said he was informed about the incident by phone and asked the caller to take his son to a private hospital, stating that he would pay the expenses. According to his account, Abhishek was instead taken to a government hospital, where he died after losing a significant amount of blood. The family told the news outlet that Abhishek was married and had no children.
The killing led relatives and local residents to gather on Sunday with the body and block the road while seeking justice. The protest caused traffic disruption in the area. Senior police officers, including the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police for Outer North Delhi, reached the spot and spoke with the family.
Following the police assurance that strict action would be taken against the accused, the family agreed to take the body for the last rites. The police response came as residents and relatives pressed for action over the killing and the circumstances surrounding the victim’s treatment after the stabbing.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police said teams had been formed to identify those involved. Police are reviewing CCTV recordings from the area and questioning people to establish the sequence of events. The officer said investigators had obtained important leads and that arrests were expected soon, although no accused had been publicly identified in the report.
The case remains under investigation. Police are continuing to examine the circumstances of the attack, the movements of the suspected assailants and the reason behind the killing.
