Delhi CM Reviews Emergency Preparedness Ahead of India Pakistan Ceasefire

Hours before US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta convened a high-level meeting with heads of departments to review the Capital’s emergency preparedness.

The move comes amid escalating tensions that triggered military activity along the border and heightened alert in several Indian states. Gupta instructed all departments to implement a coordinated and multi-layered strategy to handle potential emergencies. Officials stated that this cross-sectoral plan spans health services, power, water supply, transportation, education, infrastructure, and labour welfare. The health department was asked to place hospitals on high alert, stock up on essential medicines, ensure electrical backups for ICUs, and recall medical personnel from leave. Coordination with central hospitals, including AIIMS, was also emphasised. The Delhi Jal Board was directed to maintain uninterrupted water supply, deploy tankers where needed, and secure electrical supply for pumping stations. The power department was told to respond swiftly to outages, particularly at critical infrastructure sites.

District Disaster Management Authorities have been activated, and civil defence volunteers readied for deployment. The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed that coordination with Armed Forces, Railways, and Airports was also under review to ensure a unified response in case of a crisis. The Food and Civil Supplies Department was instructed to ensure adequate food, fuel, and gas stocks. The Delhi Transport Corporation and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation were directed to finalise emergency evacuation routes and SOPs to safely move citizens if required. Departments responsible for roads, drainage, and public utilities were tasked with identifying emergency contractors and machinery for evacuation or reconstruction. The education department has been told to ready school and college campuses for use as temporary shelters with essential amenities.

The fire department and police are on 24×7 alert to safeguard critical infrastructure and respond to incidents like fires, explosions, or structural damage.

Gupta also instructed the Labour Department to safeguard migrant and informal workers by preparing relief centres with food, healthcare, and temporary employment support. “Delhi must be ready for any eventuality. We are committed to protecting every citizen and ensuring seamless service during emergencies,” Gupta stated during the meeting.
