New Delhi: Thousands of passengers travelling between the National Capital Region and western India will need to revise their travel plans after Delhi Cantt Train Halt arrangements were temporarily withdrawn for 13 long-distance services as station modernisation work gathers pace. While train routes and schedules remain largely unchanged, the suspension of halts is expected to alter last-mile connectivity for commuters who depend on Delhi Cantt as a convenient boarding and deboarding point.
The temporary operational change comes as railway authorities undertake platform redevelopment and capacity enhancement works at Delhi Cantt station. Upgradation of passenger infrastructure, including improvements to platforms and associated railway systems, has required a traffic block that restricts normal train handling during construction. The revised arrangement will remain in force from 1 August to 13 October 2026, with different services joining the affected list on specified dates during the period. The decision impacts several trains connecting Delhi with Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and the North East corridor. Services operating between Delhi Sarai Rohilla and destinations such as Jodhpur, Jaipur, Ajmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Bandra Terminus, Udaipur City and Bikaner will continue to run on their scheduled routes but will bypass Delhi Cantt for passenger stoppage. Return services originating from Delhi are also included in the temporary operational plan.
Transport planners note that station redevelopment projects often require carefully managed operational compromises to enable long-term infrastructure improvements. Modern platforms, improved circulation areas and upgraded passenger facilities are intended to enhance safety, accessibility and operational efficiency. However, during construction, travellers typically experience short-term inconvenience, particularly at stations that function as important interchange points within expanding metropolitan regions.
