Cyclone Murasu is expected to bring heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds to Telangana over the coming days as the system strengthens over the Bay of Bengal and is forecast to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast on November 3.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletins and satellite tracking cited by Telangana Today, the deep depression is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm before making landfall between Nellore and Narsapur. The system could carry wind speeds of up to 120 kmph at the time of crossing.
The weather system is already affecting rainfall expectations across Telangana. The IMD’s Hyderabad office said rain linked to Murasu was expected to begin on November 1, with conditions likely to become heavier towards the middle of the week. The forecast for Sunday included thunderstorms, lightning and gusty squalls in parts of the state.
A heavy rain warning has been issued for eastern and southern districts, including Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Suryapet, Nalgonda and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, for Monday and Tuesday. These districts are expected to see the strongest rainfall effects as the cyclone moves towards the Andhra coast.
The Hyderabad capital region is forecast to experience a different pattern, with steady overcast conditions, intermittent light to moderate rain and gusty surface winds. The warning covers Hyderabad and adjoining Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy districts, placing the region’s roads, low-lying areas and daily commuting network under weather-related pressure over the next few days.
The forecast has implications for urban operations because even moderate spells arriving intermittently across several days can affect traffic movement, road visibility and outdoor activity. However, the supplied IMD forecast does not specify expected rainfall totals, likely waterlogging locations, school closures, transport restrictions or municipal response measures.
The cyclone is expected to weaken after crossing the Andhra Pradesh coast. In Telangana, rainy conditions are forecast to gradually taper on Wednesday, although localised thunderstorm activity may continue as the system weakens into a depression.
The IMD’s next forecasts and district-level alerts will determine how the weather threat evolves across Telangana, including the Hyderabad metropolitan region and the districts under the heavy rain warning.
