An international documentary filmmaking team, comprising photographers and videographers, faced obstruction for the third consecutive time on Monday, preventing them from accessing the NRI wetland in Navi Mumbai, despite prior permission granted by the central government.
The incident unfolded amidst allegations of interference by private parties, as police personnel reportedly barred the team from commencing their shooting activities. The documentary crew, consisting of members from various locations including Mulund in Mumbai, Pune, and Kolhapur, encountered similar restrictions on Sunday, marking the third instance of hindrance to their project. Despite the permissions granted by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on March 21 and 26 respectively, local authorities impeded the team’s entry into the wetlands.
Joining forces with the filmmakers, local activists have rallied for the preservation of the wetlands, urging residents to unite in safeguarding these crucial ecological habitats. The team’s purpose in Navi Mumbai pertains to the filming of a documentary segment for the acclaimed ‘Blue Planet III – Tropical Seas Episode’, commissioned by the BBC Natural History Unit. However, their efforts have been repeatedly thwarted, with previous denials of access occurring on May 7.
In light of the persistent challenges, the documentary team found themselves in a state of limbo, forced to wait at the NRI police station and nearby accommodations on both Sunday and Monday.
