Chimanbhai Patel Bridge Closure to Disrupt Ahmedabad Traffic at Night

The Chimanbhai Patel Bridge in Ahmedabad will be closed to all vehicular traffic from midnight to 5 am on November 3 and 4 because of work connected with the bullet train project, according to a report by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad. The closure is intended to allow steel bridge-related work to proceed safely between Sabarmati and Vatva.

The restriction will remain in force for five hours on both nights. The reported work includes piling and the installation of segments as part of the bullet train project. Steel bridge components are expected to be moved over or near the Chimanbhai Patel Bridge during the operation.

The report said the steel structure involved is large and heavy. Traffic has therefore been diverted to prevent any accident or loss of life while the construction activity is under way. The closure will affect two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers using the bridge during the specified night hours.

Vehicles travelling from the RTO towards the Power House will have to use alternative routes through areas including Sabarmati, Wadaj, Gandhi Ashram, Gayatri Mandir, Chandkheda and Ranip. The diversion is intended to keep local traffic moving while the bridge remains unavailable.

A separate route has been indicated for heavy vehicles travelling from the Power House towards the RTO. They can proceed through Janpath Three Roads, Visat Circle, Chandkheda Four Roads, Zundal Circle, Tragad underpass, Jagatpur Overbridge, Godrej Garden Four Roads, New Ranip Bridge, Balolnagar Four Roads and Ranip D-Mart Four Roads before reaching the RTO.

The temporary restriction shows how major rail construction can affect existing city road infrastructure even when work is carried out during low-traffic hours. For commuters, the impact will depend on the timing of their journey and the type of vehicle they use, with heavy vehicles facing a longer diversion route.

The closure is limited to the night-time work window on November 3 and 4, according to the published report. Commuters using the Chimanbhai Patel Bridge during these hours have been advised to plan their journeys through the designated alternative routes.
