Chennai Traffic Diversions Announced for October 21 Police Parade

Chennai traffic diversions will be enforced around the police headquarters on Kamarajar Salai from 7.30 am to 9 am on October 21 for the Police Commemoration Day parade, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) has announced. The restrictions will affect vehicles, MTC buses and commercial traffic on several routes leading towards Gandhi Statue and Kamarajar Salai.

The Police Martyrs Day observance is scheduled for 8 am at the Martyrs Column in front of the Director General of Police office. The traffic changes have been planned for the duration of the event, with vehicles being diverted away from the parade area.

Vehicles travelling from Santhome High Road towards Gandhi Statue will be diverted at Karaneeswarar Koil Street. They will be routed through Karaneeswarar Pagoda Street, Ambedkar Bridge and Dr Natesan Road. Vehicles moving from Labour Statue towards Gandhi Statue will be diverted at Labour Statue junction towards Wallajah Road.

Vehicles approaching Kamarajar Salai from Ice House will be diverted at Besant Road junction towards Kannagi junction. The GCTP has also said that vehicles will not be allowed beyond the MRTS-RK Salai junction towards Gandhi Statue during the traffic arrangements.

The diversion plan includes a separate route for Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses travelling from Mylapore to Parrys. These buses will be diverted through Royapettah, Music Academy, TTK Road and Anna Salai.

Commercial and heavy vehicles will be prohibited from using the stretch of Kamarajar Salai between Napier Bridge and Light House. The restriction is part of the arrangements around the parade venue and will apply during the notified traffic-control period.

The announcement places the main impact on east-west movement towards Gandhi Statue, access to Kamarajar Salai and bus travel between Mylapore and Parrys. Commuters using the affected roads during the 7.30 am to 9 am window will need to follow the diversions issued by the GCTP. The restrictions are scheduled to remain in force while the October 21 commemoration event is conducted.
