Chennai Metro Water has reiterated that residents and establishments seeking new water supply and underground sewerage connections must apply and pay online, as the board moves to prevent middlemen from handling applications in areas where infrastructure works have been completed.
The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB), in a press release issued on Friday, said applicants need not visit its offices to submit requests. A department official said there had been complaints about middlemen being involved in securing new connections and advised consumers to apply directly through the board’s online portal.
Applicants must use the CMWSSB portal at https://wsc.chennaimetrowater.in/#/nc/login to enter their details and upload the required documents. A field engineer will inspect the premises. If the information and documents are found to be complete and correct, the board said the application would be processed within 15 days.
The demand amount will be communicated online, and applicants must make the payment through the portal. The board’s clarification comes after infrastructure works were completed in several localities within the expanded limits of the Greater Chennai Corporation.
The new water supply network covers localities in the Manali, Madhavaram, Valasaravakkam, Alandur, Perungudi and Sholinganallur zones. Underground sewerage connections will be available in Chinnasekkadu, Porur, Ramapuram, Manapakkam, Nandambakkam, Karambakkam, Palavakkam, Perungudi, Kottivakkam, Okkiyam Thoraipakkam and Uthandi.
For individual residential houses with a built-up area of up to 500 sq ft, the water connection charge is Rs. 100 and the sewerage connection charge is also Rs. 100, with no additional connection charges. Houses above 500 sq ft and up to 100 sq m will be charged Rs. 5,000 each for water and sewerage connections.
For houses above 100 sq m and up to 200 sq m, the charge is Rs. 7,500 each per equivalent dwelling unit (EDU). In apartment buildings, each residential unit up to 200 sq m will be treated as one EDU and charged Rs. 7,500 each for water and sewerage. Commercial establishments will be charged according to the type of building and its built-up area, with water and sewerage charges of Rs. 7,500 each per EDU.
Buildings with G+2 floors and above, buildings containing more than six residential units, and commercial buildings with a constructed area exceeding 300 sq m will also have to pay Infrastructure Development Charges. The IDC is fixed at Rs. 319 per sq m.
The board’s online-only process places application submission, document uploading, demand communication and payment within the same digital workflow. CMWSSB has directed eligible residents and establishments to use the portal rather than approach its offices or intermediaries.
