BWSSB Urges Authorisation for Sewage Connections by May 7

Rainwater conservation efforts and curtail its influx into sewage systems, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), under the stewardship of Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar, has issued a resolute call to consumers.

The directive, issued on Tuesday, emphasises the imperative for consumers to regularise their sewage connections with the Board’s sewage line on or before May 7. The urgency stems from the revelation that a substantial number of consumers have availed themselves of sewerage facilities without adhering to the requisite permissions, thereby transgressing the mandates delineated under Sections 65 and 72 of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Act of 1964. Chairman Manohar has underscored the potential legal ramifications awaiting those who neglect to secure prior authorisation for their sewage installations by the stipulated deadline. Penalties may extend to the disconnection of unauthorised connections, in addition to legal consequences.

Notably, the directive extends beyond individual consumers to encompass larger entities such as factories, apartments, and other establishments. These entities are encouraged to embrace sustainable practices by integrating Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and advocating for the utilisation of treated water for non-domestic purposes. To enforce compliance, a comprehensive survey is slated for initiation targeting entities suspected of illicitly diverting sewage water into the sewerage system or rainwater canals. The BWSSB’s unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship underscores its resolve to foster sustainable water management practices and uphold regulatory compliance within its jurisdiction.
