Bomb Threat on IndiGo Flight from Chandigarh to Mumbai
An IndiGo flight from Chandigarh to Mumbai was placed on high alert early Tuesday following a bomb threat, intensifying security concerns during ongoing military tensions in the region.
Flight 6E6382, carrying 167 passengers, landed safely at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 2:32 AM on May 7. Authorities diverted the aircraft to an isolation bay, where bomb disposal experts, CISF personnel, and Mumbai Police carried out an exhaustive search. No explosive devices were found, and officials later deemed the threat a hoax. The alert was triggered by an anonymous phone call to the airport’s hotline late on May 6, claiming that a bomb was onboard the incoming flight from Chandigarh. Mumbai Police have launched an investigation to trace the caller, who remains unidentified.
The incident delayed passenger movement, as the aircraft remained grounded for security protocols and checks. IndiGo extended assistance to affected travellers and issued an apology for the disruption, citing its priority on safety. This comes amid elevated security following India’s cross-border military action under Operation Sindoor. The heightened alert has further strained airport operations already disrupted by airspace restrictions and flight cancellations. India has reported over 1,100 hoax bomb threats targeting commercial airlines between August 2022 and November 2024, reflecting a troubling pattern that complicates aviation security.
As investigations continue, authorities have reinforced surveillance across key airports, while airlines remain on alert for further threats during this volatile period.
