The Mumbai Metro One Private Limited, tasked with providing crucial metro rail services spanning Versova to Ghatkopar, finds itself embroiled in a fiscal quandary as it grapples with unpaid property tax dues amounting to a staggering Rs 461.17 crore up to the fiscal year 2022-23.
Despite persistent endeavours from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the company has yet to settle its outstanding obligations, prompting heightened scrutiny from municipal authorities. BMC officials assert that Mumbai Metro One’s delinquency extends across 28 properties situated within four distinct wards of Mumbai. Of this considerable sum, Rs 311.77 crore remains pending for 18 properties within the K West ward, Rs 116.29 crore for six properties within the K East ward, while Rs 19.04 crore and Rs 14.06 crore await settlement for two properties each in the L and N wards, respectively, BMC has initiated proactive measures, including the issuance of notices and stringent follow-up procedures aimed at securing the outstanding tax payments. Notably, notices have been dispatched to Mumbai Metro One concerning properties in the K West and L wards, with a stipulated deadline of 21 days for tax settlement. Concurrently, the process of issuing notices for properties within the K East and N wards is underway, underscoring the BMC’s unwavering commitment to tax enforcement. Furthermore, in a bid to address the ongoing fiscal debacle, Mumbai Metro One faces an additional levy of Rs 18.29 crore for the fiscal year 2023-24 across its 28 properties. With the deadline for property tax payment for the fiscal year 2023-24 slated for May 25, the company confronts mounting pressure to promptly discharge its financial obligations and ameliorate its standing with municipal authorities.
