BMC Engineers to Undergo Advanced Training at IIT-B for Road Infrastructure Enhancement

Mumbai, approximately 300 civic road engineers from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are slated to participate in a comprehensive training program hosted by the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B).

The initiative underscores the BMC’s commitment to ensuring top-tier standards in the concretisation of roads, a vital aspect of urban development and maintenance. Tasked with the upkeep of over 2,055 kilometres of roads within the city, the BMC’s engineers will undergo rigorous training sessions at IIT-B, focusing on cutting-edge techniques and best practices in cement concrete road construction. Spearheaded by Professor Dr. KV Krishna Rao, an eminent authority in civil engineering at IIT-B, the workshops will delve into the latest technological advancements, dos and don’ts, and provide a platform for addressing pertinent queries from seasoned engineers immersed in the field.

The inaugural workshop, scheduled for Saturday at the institute’s Powai campus, will convene 150 BMC engineers, with a subsequent session planned for May 4th to accommodate the remaining participants. This collaborative effort between the BMC and IIT-B underscores a proactive approach towards professional development and knowledge exchange within the realm of infrastructure management. However, amidst these endeavours, the BMC faces challenges in the procurement domain, as evidenced by its recent setbacks in soliciting tenders for road concretisation projects. Despite earlier contracts valued at ₹1,600 crore being rescinded due to delays, subsequent tender invitations have failed to garner responses from prospective bidders. Compounded by impending elections and the imminent monsoon season, further delays in infrastructure projects loom, necessitating strategic interventions to mitigate operational hindrances and uphold Mumbai’s infrastructural integrity
