Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has invited Prince Rahim Aga Khan V to the Telangana Global Summit 2026 and sought the Aga Khan Foundation’s cooperation in restoring two prominent heritage buildings in Hyderabad’s Musi river catchment. The proposal was discussed during a courtesy meeting at Taj Falaknuma Palace on Tuesday, according to a report by Telangana Today.
Reddy requested support for the restoration of City College and the existing Osmania Hospital building. He also asked the Aga Khan Foundation to consider developing the Osmania Hospital structure under its aegis, while recognising it as a heritage asset. A new hospital building is currently being constructed at Goshamahal, the report said.
The meeting connected the heritage proposal with the State government’s wider plans for the Musi river. Reddy briefed Prince Rahim Aga Khan on a major river rejuvenation project and said plans had been prepared to revive the Musi and develop a night economy along its banks. The report did not provide details of the project’s cost, implementation schedule, land requirements or institutional arrangements.
City College and Osmania Hospital are located in the Musi catchment area, making their proposed restoration part of a broader attempt to link riverfront development with Hyderabad’s historic urban fabric. The request to involve the Aga Khan Foundation places heritage conservation within the proposed river rejuvenation programme rather than treating the buildings as isolated restoration projects.
The Chief Minister also presented the proposed Bharat Future City, planned across 30,000 acres. Prince Rahim Aga Khan expressed interest in the project and asked about its location, according to the report. Reddy said a Singapore-based company was preparing the master plan.
The government also highlighted its intention to develop Bharat Future City as a net-zero city. Around 15,000 acres, or half of the proposed project area, is expected to comprise a green zone. The report did not specify the nature of the green zone, the legal status of the land, the proposed development authority or the financing structure for the project.
The two proposals reflect separate but connected elements of Telangana’s urban agenda: the redevelopment of a historic river corridor in established Hyderabad and the planning of a large new urban district outside the existing city. The Musi project is focused on restoring an ecological and heritage corridor, while Bharat Future City is being framed as a planned, low-carbon expansion with a substantial green area.
The Aga Khan Foundation’s possible involvement remains at the cooperation and consideration stage. No agreement, restoration contract or formal project timeline was announced in the report. The next stated milestone is the preparation of the Bharat Future City master plan by the Singapore-based company, while the State government’s invitation concerns participation in the Telangana Global Summit 2026.
