Bengaluru Semiconductor Lab Opens With HCLTech’s ₹185-Crore Bet

HCLTech has launched a Bengaluru semiconductor lab with an investment of ₹185 crore, adding a 40,000-square-foot facility focused on post-silicon engineering, advanced testing and failure analysis for global customers.

The laboratory will support semiconductor research and development, pre-production and production qualification, according to the company. HCLTech said the facility is designed to provide an integrated platform covering electrical validation, automated testing, qualification and failure analysis.

The company said the lab is equipped with tools from Teradyne, Advantest, Keysight, Tektronix and Thermo Fisher Scientific. These systems will be used across the testing and analysis cycle, with the stated objective of improving turnaround times, product quality and operational simplicity for customers.

The Bengaluru facility is aligned with HCLTech’s Spec2Parts business model. Under this model, the company provides a unified route from design specifications to finished semiconductor parts. The laboratory is intended to bring several stages of that process into a single engineering environment rather than separating validation, testing and failure analysis across different facilities.

HCLTech said the lab will serve both domestic and international markets. Its capabilities will cover work undertaken during research and development, as well as pre-production and production qualification. The company described the facility as part of its wider strategy to provide semiconductor solutions to global customers.

Hari Sadarahalli, corporate vice-president and global head of engineering and R&D services at HCLTech, said the facility reflected the company’s commitment to investing in high-end engineering capabilities. His statement was reported by Business Standard in its account of the launch.

The launch adds advanced semiconductor testing and engineering capacity to Bengaluru’s technology and research base. The facility’s stated functions extend beyond chip design to include validation, automated testing and failure analysis—activities that help determine whether semiconductor parts meet required specifications before and during production.

HCLTech said the laboratory would enable faster turnaround, superior quality and reduced complexity for customers. The company has not, in the material reported, disclosed the number of employees expected to work at the facility, its annual testing capacity, or a separate timeline for additional expansion.

The laboratory is expected to operate as part of HCLTech’s engineering and research and development services. Its immediate role, according to the company, is to support customers through the transition from design requirements to qualified semiconductor parts for domestic and international markets.
