A five-day Bengaluru liquor ban will restrict the sale and supply of alcohol in specified police-station jurisdictions from September 16 to September 20 as the city prepares for large-scale public Ganesh immersion processions, according to a report by Vijay Karnataka citing a Bengaluru city police order.
The restrictions will apply only to selected areas identified as sensitive or likely to see major public Ganesh festival and immersion activity. The affected jurisdictions fall under the Whitefield, Bengaluru East, Bengaluru West and Bengaluru Central divisions. The measure has been issued as a precaution to maintain law and order, public peace and safety during the processions.
Wine shops, bars, pubs, MSIL outlets and clubs licensed to distribute alcohol will not be permitted to sell or supply liquor during the specified periods. Bars and restaurants may continue to serve food, but alcohol service will not be allowed while the restrictions are in force. Establishments holding CL4 and CL-6(A) licences have been excluded from the ban, according to the report.
The first restriction will run from 10am on September 16 until 1pm on September 17 in the RT Nagar, JC Nagar, Hebbal, Sanjaynagar and DJ Halli police-station limits.
On September 18, liquor sales and supply will be prohibited from 10am until 11.59pm in the limits of Sampigehalli, Amruthahalli, Kothanur, Hennur, Banaswadi, Govindapura, KG Halli, DJ Halli, Pulikeshi Nagar, Bharathi Nagar, Commercial Street, Shivajinagar, Indiranagar and Halasuru police stations.
A further restriction will operate from 10am on September 19 until 1pm on September 20 in RT Nagar, JC Nagar, Hebbal, Sanjaynagar, DJ Halli, Bharathi Nagar and Pulikeshi Nagar. On September 20, a separate order will prohibit liquor sales from 10am to 11.59pm in Pulikeshi Nagar, Bharathi Nagar, Commercial Street, Shivajinagar and Halasuru.
The Yelahanka New Town and Vidyaranyapura police-station areas will have a longer restriction on September 20, from 6am until 11.59pm. The listed locations include the route from Sambhram College Road to MS Palya, Jalli Mission Circle, Chikkabettahalli, Doddabettahalli, Atkuru Main Road, Dairy Circle, 16th B Main, Chikkabommasandra, Doddabommasandra, LBS Nagar and Ramachandrapura.
The staggered timings mean the order does not apply uniformly across Bengaluru. Residents, licensed outlets and visitors will need to check the specific police-station jurisdiction and applicable hours before purchasing or serving alcohol. The restrictions will end in each area at the time specified in the police order, with the final listed closure ending at 11.59pm on September 20.
